Cooking out

Summer time and steaks on the grill....nothing quite compares in the food world. I don't cook on the grill too often but some things are just better done that way and steak is one of them. My big grill has long since bit the dust ..mostly from just sitting around. This little pack grill does works great for what I do.
Shell and Matt stopped by so it was a good excuse to grill. This photo and the one of Matt and Ben was taken by Macy. She has a good eye for photos and I think that her perspective is better at that height.

Ben seems to enjoy it too.

Macy had to take some photos too.

Cousins just hanging out at the fire. It will be fun to see them changing as they get older. Ben will out pace Macy big time. He is already half of her weight.

Taking the girls for a ride.

On our trip to Harbor Springs Macy saw a shooting star one night and made a wish that she could go for a ride in a car with no ceiling. She didn't know that my friend Darryl had a convertable and when I told him the story he insisted that I take her for a ride. It made her day.
The girls when I picked them up.

Brie is going on 15 (read 20)! and is becoming quite the young lady.

She loved the car and we both enjoyed the time riding together. She got the first ride so we put the car thru it paces . She wants one.

Macy was too cool for words.

She says that the movie stars wear these glasses.

She kept raising her hands and laughing like she was on a fair ride. Oh the joy.

This is for Darryl . A special thanks from Macy.

Camping out

This week Macy wanted to camp out because she only has "camped" in the living room with a pretend fire so we did the whole shebang . We camped "way" out in the back yard ,built a fire and roasted marsh mellows, pieces of hot dogs and some shrimp for us. By the way shrimp over the fire were very good. Macy wouldn't eat any but enjoyed the hot dog pieces dipped in ketchup. She liked roasting the marsh mellows but wouldn't eat them! Go figure.
This is the tent we slept in...I had to sleep sideways to fit.

Grandma gave her some glow sticks to play with and she was up late flashing them in the tent. A long night for me but worth every waking monent.

Us making faces for Ginny.
I had an awful nights sleep but would do it again . How could I resist.

Late Summer food

This is the time of year that I love having a loaded hamburger filled with all of the fresh veggies from the garden. Tomatoes won't taste this good until next year. I like banana peppers, onions, tomatoes ,and if it fits, lettuce on mine. Gin cooks up the peppers and onions and toasts my buns. Am I spoiled or what. Life is good.
We don't grow sweet corn because someone always gives all we need. Today we got about 8 dozen from our friends, the" Cobb's", how fitting a name hey. We blanched the ears and stripped the kernels for freezing. I think we got nine quart bags in all. The corn is extra sweet this year and will be great this winter.
Gin has been slicing and freezing tomatoes and freezing them on cookies sheets . They are great for adding to recipes later. That's whats going on here.

County fair with the Granddaughter

Our trip to the fair ,or how to get grandpa sick. That is what I was going to title this but it was too long. We had Macy this week and took advantage of the time to do the fair. It was very hot though and we had to cut it a little short.
The first thing that we saw was the Ferris wheel ,of course the biggest thing there she had to ride. She didn't show much interest in the kiddy rides . She wanted the rides that throws you around like a wet rag at a car wash. This is a view from the Ferris wheel. A easy ride.
Another view of the midway.
Macy loved the things that you walk thru like this one.

This is our ride through the haunted house. Loud noises and thing hitting you in the face. This is how Macy went through....scared to death. Needless to say we only rode this one once. I enjoyed the day with her at the fair(and Ginny), it is always fun to introduce kids to new experiences and fun things to do. It was like taking my kids again for the first time. By the end we were all worn out and over heated so we ended early and made our way home for ice cream. The end of a good time.

This is one of the walk through rides ...I think we did this three or four times in a row.

Summer vacation at Harbor Springs

Macy and Breanna and friend.
Been too busy or Hot this summer to blog much but we just returned from vacation at my friends and it was wonderful.

This was the first time that everyone could come along. We were packed but it worked out .

One nights view from the deck when the Moon was just perfect.

Our lunch spot on the deck after the kids were gone. I fed the birds out of my hand, took pictures and did some maintenance.

Ben enjoyed the beach too.

Macy got to bury her dad.

and build sand castles with me.

Matt and Mark bring the boat to shore so everyone could get rides. The lake was calm enough the first few day to allow good boating.

These videos tell the story best of all. We spent a lot of time down on the beach.

Macy had her 5th birthday on friday so we played Putt Putt golf. She got 4 holes-in-one! This is one of them.

It was pointed out by my DIL that I didn't have enough photos of Bree so I added a little to this post. Most of the great pictures of my older grandaughter that I took were not appropriate for this blog, and that Shell is why ,.
