Cutting down the dead Ash tree

In one of my previous posts you saw that the neighbors dead ash tree fell on my garage and greenhouse . Well there was still a lot of tree still standing and in danger of falling on my garage again. Today my friends came over with the tractor to help me pull it down. I was to say the least a little nervous because it was in the neighbor's yard. There is a shed and her wellhead near where I had to drop it. Here is the tail.

Cliff and Doug.

Here is Cliff after we got the straps and chains hooked up . We had to get far away.

This is hours later after I had it all cut up. A lot of work but it will help heat the house next winter. All I have to do now is get it all split and piled up in the back. Any volunteers?

Click on this to see it closer.

Okay it's going down! Watch the upper limb hit the little tree and break in half. That saved the shed!

An Afternoon with Grandpa

Last week the daughter-in-law called to ask if we could watch Macy for a while and Gin was busy at the church so I got to watch Macy ...all by my self! I thought that she might be unhappy that GG wasn't there cus she loves her GG but all was well. In fact it was wonderful.

I haven't smiled that much for a while. She kept saying the cutes things and I was kept busy every minute. What was really nice was that I had her all to my self and could take as many pictures as she would allow. The following is my Macy Day pictures.

A Surprise Night Out

Last night Mark and Bernie took us out for a "surprise "! We expected dinner at maybe the local place in Dundee or something along those lines. They wouldn't tell us where until we got real close....It was Mancy's in Toledo! Holy Cow. This place is really the top of the line and expensive...we had no clue.

This is where I took Ginny on our first date some 41 years ago. We hav only been there a half a dozen times since.

We had great waittress. She took all of the teasing that Mark and I was giving her very well and was real sweet. She had as much fun as we did and she even took our pictures for us to document the night.

Here we are enjoying the soup before the main meal came out.

I'm the handsome one and Mark is the other one.

Thank Mark and Bernie ...It was a great night out.

Another Winter's Day

This morning I was up early and the sun was just coming up over the trees so I had to get my camera. Always trying to get that special shot. We've had so few sunny days this winter that it was nice to see the sunrise and today Matt and Shell are coming for breakfast before they go East to see some friends.

Matt and Shell coming down the road. This is the clearest that the road has been for some time. The plows don't come as often and it has been snow and ice covered most of the time.

Can't wait for breakfast I guess.

Shell always takes her place by the wood burner.
Notice that we are cooking breakfast on the stove......we try to do most of our meals using it and we do quite well. We had bacon, sausage, eggs and pancakes.
Sometimes we cook meat or fish in a basket inside the stove. GREAT tasting!

Just having a good conversation before they leave. We love it when one of our kids come over. One of lives pleasures.

Snow in the Morning

I like a sunny snow covered morning and this winter we have a lot. So I took the camera out for a morning walk.

This is my teepee . It looks cozy covered in snow, but I can't talk Gin into spending a night there. What's with that! It's got a stove ,cots and carpeting...what more could she want?

Taking a photo into the sun can be tricky but it makes for a nice scene
The tipi is doing well this winter. I was going to take it down if we had a December thaw but that never happened.

Puffed up Jay waiting it turn for the feeder.
Enjoy winter.

The New Years Eve Get Together

On New Years Eve we got together with friends to have our eating ,playing games and having fun night. We always eat to much and stay too long and have too much fun. This year was no exception. We pay for it the next day though! We drag around for the rest of the week . Getting old is the pits. But we do have fun. Gene and Barb are always good hosts.

You got to see this video....The girls wore these flashing earings all night long! It was hard to play a game with these strobe lights going off and on,off and on! Oh, I bet that is why the guys did so poorly. It was a plan all along.

Ginny's Mom Bowling on Her 94th Birthday

Ginny's mom bowls regularly in a seniors league and at 94 she bowls pretty darn well..better than some half of her age. She is the hit of the league and is loved by one and all. Since she turned 90 we take a cake to the alley for all to share.

She has been trying to break the 200 mark for years and could never do it......until TODAY! This is after one of her four strikes in a row. She was a happy camper for sure. She ended this game with a 205. A life time high. Her series was 511!

Mom talking to Earl. Everyone had to come down to her alley to see for themselves and wish her well.

Can you tell by her body language that this one was not a strike!

Her team members. The cake crew.

Firewood....with Free Delivery!

The neighbors ash tree fell on the garage a couple of Sundays ago. We had 60 mph winds that blew over to my side. I needed some firewood but not on the roof. Another view . These two big limbs did most of the damage. Thing is there is still one more up there. Hoping that the adjuster will pay to get it down.
The glazing on the greenhouse really got messed up. Looks like it all will need to be replaced.

This is where one of the limbs came thru the roof.

Making firewood. At least it will keep us warm for a while. I split most of it and started burning. Ash is the one wood that can be burned green anyway..although this one was dead and mostly dry. Now I have to wait on the adjuster to come.

Christmas at Our House

Christmas is always a busy time and it is great to have all of the kids and family home.
This is Sarah and Michelle....The Daughter-in-Laws. The reason why my hair is finally getting some grey in it. Love them both.

Ginny getting her Macy time. There is something special about having Christmas with small kids that makes it more enjoyable.

The family.

Mark and Matt

Macy got Uncle Matt to play games.

Of course she took charge of the board.A song for you .
Macy sings what she knows. Row,row, row your boat.
